Is fasting good for health?

Fasting has a great role to play in nature cure and natural healthy living. In the Anushasan chapter of the Hindu Mahabharata scripture, it is stated..

"Whoever fasts is blessed in every way. He draws the benefits of all the great medicines. All his diseases are cured and he becomes strong and virile."

Fasting is the gateway to health. Fasting cures most physical and mental diseases. During fasting, the body recoups the Aakash (ether) element. Fasting has been considered so important for human welfare that almost all religions of the world have laid down fasting as one of their important tenets in their holy books.

The basic cause of most diseases is the accumulation of toxic matter in the digestive system. By fasting all body mechanisms which produce blood, flesh, bones or body juices are cleansed and overhauled. During fasts, the body energy that was ordinarily employed in nutritional purposes also becomes available and that too is utilized for the elimination of unwholesome and toxic matter.  During fasts, the benefits can be greatly enhanced by enema, hydrotherapy and mud therapy for throwing out the accumulated toxic matter from the body. Complete rest should be taken on such days. Talking less is a good idea, as it will let the body energy to be used fully and exclusively for cleansing operations. By fasting 'the tongue becomes clear, appetite normal and body agile'. 

Have a complete fast once every week and have a one week fast on fruit diet every three months, and you will not know what disease is.

Watch a pet animal when it falls sick. It stops eating. It will keep laying and resting and drink lots of water until it is back to health. Can we learn this from them?

Note: Expecting women and people with extremely weak constitution should not fast.
